About us

Gu graduated in 1985 from the Central Institute of Nationalities (now the Minzu University of China) in Beijing with a Bachelor’s degree in history. Subsequently, he worked as a teaching fellow in his alma mater’s Department of History from 1985 to 1992. Gu then graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Master’s degree in anthropology in 1995.

In January 1996, Gu joined London Life as a Sales Representative in Toronto. In just 3 years, he was appointed Manager of New Advisor Development in April 1999. With the launch of Freedom 55 Financial in June 2000, he became Director of Advisor Development. Starting in September 2002 Gu worked in senior management roles in the Chinese life insurance industry. In March 2006, he rejoined Freedom 55 Financial as Director of Business Development. In May 2017, after having been in management for 18 years, Gu started managing his own firm, Helping Financial Inc.

Since 1996 Gu has helped many financial security advisors establish successful careers and has helped his clients with their financial security planning for their loved ones towards financial freedom.

Gu knows the value of planning for the future, his own family's financial security is very important to him. He is happily married to Liping He and they have two sons together. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, playing basketball, volleyball and golf.

His journey began at London Life Insurance Company, where he honed his skills as a Financial Security Advisor, guiding individuals towards comprehensive financial protection.

In 2000, James transitioned his expertise to Freedom 55 Financial, continuing his mission of empowering clients to make informed decisions about their financial well-being. Through his unwavering commitment and personalized approach, James has become a trusted advisor to countless individuals, assisting them in navigating the complexities of insurance and financial planning.

James understands that planning for the future is a multifaceted endeavor, and he takes pride in crafting tailored solutions that align with each client's unique goals and aspirations. Beyond his professional accomplishments, James is a proud resident of Toronto, where he shares his life with his loving wife, they have one daughter. In his spare time, you can find him on the golf course, perfecting his swing, or at the gym, staying fit and active.
